The African Circular Business Alliance (ACBA) is extending its mission to new frontiers – Space. With a focus on circular economy principles and sustainability, the Space T&E (Tech & Exploration) Program is set to revolutionize how we approach space missions and off-Earth resource use. This groundbreaking initiative ensures that space technologies and exploration not only advances human knowledge but also safeguards the environment and promotes resource efficiency both in space and on Earth.

Key Focus Areas of the Space Tech & Exploration Program

1. Resource Efficiency in Space: We are committed to promoting resource efficiency and waste reduction in space missions. Our initiatives focus on:

  • Recycling materials from space missions, such as repurposing old satellites and spacecraft components.
  • Developing biodegradable or recyclable materials for use in space technologies to reduce space debris.
  • Establishing guidelines for sustainable spacecraft decommissioning.

2. Sustainable Space Technologies: ACBA is investing in the development of sustainable technologies for space exploration, including:

  • Research of Energy-efficient propulsion systems powered by renewable energy sources like Biofuel.
  • Eco-friendly materials for spacecraft that minimize environmental impact and are easy to recycle.
  • Research into sustainable fuels for space travel.

3. Circular Economy and Planetary Resources: We advocate for a circular approach to off-Earth resource extraction, ensuring that space resources are used responsibly. Our efforts include:

  • Developing guidelines for sustainable asteroid mining, focusing on resource regeneration and minimal environmental impact.
  • Collaborating on the development of space-based clean technology components, such as materials for clean energy solutions on Earth.

4. Space Data for Sustainability on Earth: ACBA leverages satellite data and space exploration technologies to enhance environmental monitoring and sustainability on Earth. This includes:

  • Using satellites to monitor greenhouse gases, deforestation, and ocean health to provide real-time data for climate strategies.
  • Supporting governments, businesses, and organizations in using this data to improve emissions tracking and circular economy initiatives.

5. Global Collaborations for Sustainable Space Policies: We are joining the movement in advocating for global space policies that prioritize sustainability. ACBA is:

  • Collaborating with space agencies and private companies to ensure responsible use of space resources.
  • Hosting dialogues and summits on sustainable space technologies & exploration, shaping international standards for ethical resource use and space material recycling.
