Cape Town, South Africa — May 31, 2025 — The African Circular Business Alliance (ACBA), a pioneering multi-national organisation dedicated to accelerating the transition to a sustainable and circular economy, is proud to mark its third anniversary today.
Founded on May 31, 2022, ACBA emerged from a bold vision: to create a collaborative ecosystem where African and global governments, businesses, communities, and innovators could unite around circular principles — reducing waste, regenerating resources, and redefining prosperity for generations to come.
“When we launched ACBA three years ago, we believed deeply in the idea that Africa should not be left behind in the global sustainability dialogue,” said Miguel Peters, Co-founder and CEO of ACBA. “We wanted to move beyond conversation and build a vehicle for action, inclusion, and leadership across the continent.”
A Growing Movement
Over the past three years, ACBA has grown into a continental and global organisation, not just in presence, but in purpose. Operating in major African cities including Lagos, Nairobi, Cape Town, Accra, Kigali, Luanda and more, and with strategic extensions in the United States, the organisation serves as a bridge between African realities and international innovation.
At the heart of ACBA is the belief that circularity is not foreign to Africa — that our ancestral cultures have long understood reuse, repair, community-driven economies, and stewardship of natural resources. What ACBA does is reintroduce and scale these principles with modern tools — from artificial intelligence to clean energy, digital platforms, regenerative agriculture, and smart infrastructure.
Beyond Sustainability — Toward Circular Prosperity
ACBA’s work is rooted in the conviction that circular economy is not just about environmental sustainability, but about economic empowerment and social equity. It provides a practical, resilient pathway to job creation, climate adaptation, and self-reliance in African communities — particularly for youth and women who face the highest barriers to opportunity.
“Circular business is about systems that work for people and the planet — not just profit,” Miguel Peters said. “And Africa is uniquely positioned to model this for the world.”
Through partnerships, awareness campaigns, on-the-ground programs, and strategic policy engagements, ACBA continues to champion a vision where African countries can lead the world in implementing circular systems that are scalable, inclusive, and profitable.
Looking Ahead
As ACBA enters its fourth year, the organisation is focused on deepening its impact, scaling circular solutions, and strengthening regional collaboration.
“This anniversary is not just a celebration — it’s a recommitment,” Miguel Peters concluded. “A recommitment to the communities we serve, to the future we are building, and to the legacy we hope to leave for the continent and the planet.”
New initiatives, training programs, and demonstration projects are in development, with a clear emphasis on African-led innovation and cross-sector transformation.
